Critical Thinking = Educate = Knowledge = Power = Change ( Discover Orgins of Humanity - Define Meaning of God - Save the Planet! )
The collective growth in human intellect over many centuries, born out of myriad of experiences (for experience is the only source of knowledge), has endorsed 'scientific reason' as the most powerful tool for seeking knowledge.
However, it demanded equally powerful, progressive and rational tradition in epistemology and philosophy that could balance the waywardness of science in proclaiming 'study of external nature' as the best form and source of knowledge.
Critical thinking is to think actively with an awareness of potential conflicts within the information you encounter from the Internet, television, news media, radio, print or any other source. 'Critical thinking' and 'critical analysis' are terms which are consistently used by academics in explanations of what is required by students in their university work as well as feedback about what is lacking in student assignments. Today the quest for knowledge must be undertaken in a world that is indifferent to contemplation and suspicious of any idea or thought that cannot be spun into a product or service. It must unfold with the clear understanding that very few people quite care anymore, that solemnity and rumination are intruders in the chateau of narcissism and pragmatism.
What ever happened to the Enlightenment view that knowledge is the highest good? What bents of mind and changes in social practice undermined the ideal and relegated worldly success to the first rank? And what happened to the Greek-inspired view that knowledge should be pursued for its own sake, and that human perfectibility is inconceivable without it?
Hot Tip - The concrete is preferable to the abstract; action is preferable to reflection; the seen world is more important than an unseen world. Philosophy should be less exalted, more practical, more matter-of-fact, more concerned with the ephemera of daily existence
Scientists proclaimed sense perceptions -- further refined and empowered by innovative instruments, equipment and gadgets -- as the only source of knowledge. Microscopes and lasers, for instance, were seen as extensions of sense of vision. However, mere refinement of senses and concentration of mind without spiritual dimension proved inadequate to reach the highest truth.
The 'objective rationality' was disturbed by the necessity of 'subjective consciousness' to interpret and grasp the highest truth. Restlessness of scientists, as they delved deeper into the realm of subtle, came to fore in the form of difficulty in comprehending the 'wave and particle phenomenon', for instance.
Develope Habits for Developing Personality Development
The progress in and insistence on quality of education coupled with rapid strides in spread of knowledge calls for equally developed and able recipients. Thus, a definite need is felt for well-developed personality and character in our life. The vedantic concept of personality development is based on the concept of perfection of each soul and self-confidence for realization and manifestation of this inner knowledge
There are five dimensions involved in forming and developing the human personality:
1.) The Physical Self
Physical self relates to our senses. Proper nourishment and growth of physical faculties is essential by way of balanced diet, recreation, music, and care and concern from near and dear ones. A simple pat on the back for any achievement in life goes a long way to build up confidence. However, discretion and discrimination are the key words in this regard. Otherwise, there is every chance that senses would create havoc by way of infatuation and attachment to the sense objects.
2.) The Energy Self
Energy self is somewhat subtler than the first. It relates to metabolism and the gross manifestations of energy (Prana), for insatnce the act of breathing. The control of Prana is achieved by control of anger, anxiety, and restlessness.
3.) The Intellectual Self
Intellectual self concerns with discriminative power and knowledge, what we call "buddhi". In addition to sincere and formal studies, reading other books like biographies of great and noble persons and invigorating literature helps us develop this faculty.
4.) The Mental Self
Mental self is related to stress and psychology. Here selflessness, control, concentration, and calmness of mind plays essential role.
5.) The Blissful Self.
Anandamaya Kosha or blissful self is the function of state of being. It calls for remaining calm and unaffected, nay to remain happy, in all the frivolities of world, in neck break competition and struggle, in calamities and disasters, in suffering and loss, in failure and success.
Well-integrated personality is the sum total of harmonious expression of these five dimensions.
